Club History
The Incorporated Village of Flower unifies three zip codes: Manhasset, Roslyn and Port Washington. The Village was incorporated in 1939 and its history can be traced back to colonial times. It was named Flower Hill because cows grazed by a flower garden, upon a hill, next to an old brook, which was just south of our modern day Village Hall.
On June 12, 1949 , when the Village Hall officially opened, an enthusiastic group of Flower Hill women, led by their leader, Mrs. Joseph Cardillo, started a Women's Club.
The Club had a dual purpose...to raise money for children's charities and to have fun while fundraising. These elegant ladies attended meetings wearing hats, gloves,
pearls and matching shoes and handbags. They addressed each other as Mrs. husband's first and last name. (Note: Women's Lib changed this title giving rule.)
"The Collect of Club Women" was read aloud at all major events and this tradition has never ended. The Collect reminds our members to be kind, gentile and helpful.
The recent pandemic years caused the Club to stand-still, however, it never stopped supporting the charities that appreciate our annual donation. Under the leadership
of the Club's newly installed President, Antonietta Manzi, we are back and thriving. The Club organizes luncheons, ladies and couples nights and children events.
Becoming a member is a great way to get involved in the community. Membership is $40 yearly (September to June) and can join online anytime. The club is now on social media also (FB/IG) @womensclubflowerhill.
OUR MISSION
The Women's Club of Flower Hill is a social organization committed to raise funds to donate to various local children's organizations.
The objective of The Women’s Club of Flower Hill (WCFH) is to promote civic, social and cultural interests among its members and to collect or otherwise raise funds for charitable and philanthropic purposes. The Club has been a supporter of children's charities on Long Island as well as local organizations in our community. Some charitable organizations include Junior League of LI, JDRF Foundation, Planet Manhasset, Project Health of LI, The Tower Foundation, SCO Family of Services, Science Museum of Long Island and more. Yearly, the WCoFH donates to the Little Village House in Flower Hill, a special home for adults and children in need.
This year the Philanthropic Committee organized a November "Socks" drive and a December "Hat and Gloves" drive for a homeless shelter.
In December, the Club participates in Light the Night. This one night event celebrates unity and pride in our vibrant village and community. Picture front yards and Village Hall lit up by candlelight. This event is ran in conjunction with the Munsey Park Women's Club. Proceeds from the sale of the kits go directly to the Women’s Club of Flower Hill Philanthropic fund. The funds are focused on children’s charities, community organizations and beautification projects within the Village.
The Women's Club of Flower Hill is one of the longest running Women's Club on Long Island, bringing neighbors together for friendship and philanthropy. WCFH celebrated it's Diamond Jubilee on June 12, 2024. An elaborate 75 Anniversary event was planned. Our members are very proud of their special philanthropic club and all its accomplishments. The Club believes that there are no strangers in Flower Hill....only friends who haven't met yet.
